First of all, I want to say that information sent to you earlier about Maryam in Iran was perhaps misleading. I mentioned that Maryam had been released but that nothing was said about Marzeih. Actually, the Maryam that was released was Maryam Razandi, and not Maryam Rastampoor (27), who had been arrested along with Marzeih Amirizadeh Esmaeilabad (30) last March.
 A more recent bulletin from Iran says that Maryam and Marzieh are both still being held in Evin prison and their health is deteriorating. The judge has said that they are "not cooperating," which means that they are refusing to recant their faith. Please pray that their health will prevail, they will be faithful whatever the cost, and that the judge will either grant their release or be removed from the case.
Islam on Capitol Hill
Friday I was notified that a mass gathering of Muslims is to take place on the steps of our nation's capitol building this Friday, September 25. Muslims are calling it a Muslim Day of Prayer in Washington DC.
Their website (www.islamoncapitolhill.com) declares:
- [At 1 p.m.] "The Athan [Muslim call to prayer] will be chanted on Capitol Hill, echoing off the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument and other great edifices that surround Capitol Hill."
- "We intend to manifest Islam's majestic spiritual principles as revealed by Allah to our beloved prophet."
- "The peace, beauty and solidarity of Islam will shine through America's capitol."
They do not say that part of their "majestic spiritual principles" is to subject all peoples to Islam.
They are expecting 50,000 Muslims to gather and pray on the DC Mall. This is the exact word of one of the Sheikhs who is leading this historic gathering, "Muslims should march on the White House. We are going to the White House so that Islam will be victorious, Allah willing, and the White House will become into a Muslim house."
Lou Engle, leader of "The Call," [i.e. the call to Christians to fast and pray] comments, "These are not empty words. They speak of a dark spiritual intent and a coming day of great trouble to America."
 Is there any significance to the date? One reason may be that this is the first Friday after the close of Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting, during which no food can be eaten during daylight hours, making long journeys and large gatherings difficult.
A Virginia-based ministry, Advancing Native Missions, has suggested another reason: It was on September 25, 1396, that forces of the Ottoman Empire defeated the last multinational crusade of any size at Nicopolis, located on the Danube River in what is now Bulgaria.
Whatever the reason, ANM has posted guidelines and helpful hints on how to pray concerning this Friday's Muslim prayer event on capitol hill. Get more information from www.adnamis.org.
Pray for terrorists
Finally, you have an exceptional opportunity to pray for some of the known Islamic terrorists of this world by name. Adapt a Terrorist For Prayer (www.atfp.org) has posted the names, photos, and biographical sketches of over 100 known terrorists and invites you to adopt one of them for prayer.
The leader of the ministry, who goes by the name Thomas Bruce, points out that we are in a spiritual battle and it will not be won without spiritual efforts. He says defensive prayers ("Lord, protect us from...") are not enough. He says, "Wars are never won without offensive action." He invites you to join him in "launching a major spiritual offensive. Only with spiritual changes can we win this war." This is taking spiritual warfare to its ultimate level.
 I venture to suggest none of the terrorists listed at ATFP are worse than Saul of Tarsus against the Christians. God smote him with a blinding light and spoke to him directly, and he changed his ways. God could do the same for any of these. Just think how the world would react if Mahmoud Ahmadinejad came to Christ, or at least let Maryam and Marzeih out of prison!
So sign up to adopt a terrorist for prayer today. Captain Bruce offers plenty of suggestions and background information on how to pray for them.
